When Kate Winslet takes a role, she really commits.

Just take her role in Divergent, for which Winslet did her own stunts – even as she was pregnant with her third child.

The 38-year-old actress’s hands-on approach was the topic of discussion at the film’s world premiere Tuesday in Los Angeles, where Divergent author Veronica Roth and the film’s director, Neil Burger, spoke out about the Winslet, who stars opposite Shailene Woodley.

“It’s pretty funny because she was pregnant when we were shooting, but she wanted to do her own stunt falls,” Roth told PEOPLE. “She did a couple. She’s you know, very careful about it, and then finally Neil Burger was like, ‘Okay I’m too nervous – you can’t do this anymore.’ ”

Added Roth, with a laugh: “She was like, you know, taking-charge lady – she powers through. It’s really impressive.”

Burger agreed that Winslet was unflinching about her role, even when she revealed to him the news that she was pregnant.

“We had to refit all of her wardrobe, but then there is a scene where she fights Shailene and she was like, you know, taking the falls and I’m like, ‘Stop, you’re pregnant.’ But she was still wanting to do it with as much action,” Burger told PEOPLE. “She’s a committed actress and she’s a committed mother, too. But she is just completely there, and you kind of just have to stop her.”

That moxie, he said, is why Winslet remains a down-to-earth but world-class actress.

“She really is, from my mind, the best actress of her generation, and … there’s a reason. She’s a pro. She’s completely present.”

There’s at least one person not surprised Michel Gondry’s “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” is 10 years old: Kate Winslet.

“I can believe it’s 10 years. I absolutely can. I was pregnant with my son when I was shooting that movie, and he’s 10 now,” Winslet told HuffPost Entertainment in a recent interview. “I have incredible memories of ‘Eternal Sunshine.’ That was what took me to New York in the first place. I went to New York to shoot that movie and didn’t leave for nine years. It occupied the beginning of a really big chapter in my life. I always remember it very fondly.”

Winslet was 28 when “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” came out on March 19, 2004, and already a three-time Oscar nominee (“Sense and Sensibility,” “Titanic” and “Iris”). Appearing in Gondry’s film, however, was a watershed moment in her career. It provided Winslet with a leading role in a very modern story that, as written by Charlie Kaufman, combined love, science-fiction and offbeat comedy into a drama about what happens to two people after their relationship falls apart. (Jim Carrey played Winslet’s onscreen partner.)

“I think creatively it opened people’s eyes to other sides of myself as a performer,” Winslet said of playing Clementine in “Eternal Sunshine,” a character notable for her no-bull attitude and changing hair color. “I think that perhaps if it hadn’t been for that, maybe I wouldn’t necessarily have been considered for something like ‘The Reader.’ I was able to show my versatility in ‘Eternal Sunshine,’ and versatility obviously expands in all kinds of different directions.”

Of that versatility, Winslet, who next stars in this weekend’s “Divergent,” recalled how “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” specifically allowed her to branch out from the potentially limiting nature of her nationality.

“I think because I am British, there’s this sort of very strange metaphorical red carpet that is rolled out for us,” Winslet said. “People kind of think that we speak a foreign language and that we’re much more intelligent than the rest of the human race. That we fall asleep with volumes of Shakespeare by our bed. That isn’t me at all. I think ‘Eternal Sunshine’ smashed through any preconceived notions that people may have had about who I actually am.”

While “Eternal Sunshine” only grossed $34 million at the North American box office, the film enjoyed great critical acclaim and awards recognition. Kaufman won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, while Winslet received her fourth nomination overall for the role, and third in the Best Actress category. (She would later win an Oscar for “The Reader.”)

“To receive an Academy Award nomination for ‘Eternal Sunshine’ was just fantastic. Because none of us really thought that was going to happen,” Winslet said. “We were doing Michel Gondry’s completely crazy movie with Charlie Kaufman. We had no idea what it was going to be like. I always had real faith that it would be something very special, but I didn’t know.”

The Oscar-winning actress said she was thankful that she had been able to “remain sane” herself, despite rising to fame as a teenager

Kate Winslet has told of her concerns over young stars including Miley Cyrus, who appear to have “lost their way”.

The Oscar-winning actress said she was thankful that she had been able to “remain sane” herself, despite rising to fame as a teenager.

“You hear horror stories where you think, ‘God, who’s looking after these people and why does it seem like they’re losing their way?’’ she said.

“I mean, you think about someone like Miley Cyrus , and I said to my daughter the other day, ‘I’m this close to opening my mouth about what’s going on with that girl’. Who is actually saying, ‘Stop for a second, what do you want, who are you?’

“I’ve just been very lucky that I’ve always been quite comfortable with who I am. Sometimes people ask, ‘What do you wish for your children?’ and all I say is, ‘I want them to be happy being them’.”

Kate, 38, said she was thankful her fame came before the rise of social media, which has made it much harder for the next generation.

“It’s really rough now. I think, for young actors, actresses and pop stars, it’s a nightmare. They can’t do anything. I’m so not going near that whole world – I don’t need it. I do feel incredibly lucky.”

But the mum-of-three confessed that she was frightened by the impact of the internet on her kids, Mia, 13, Joe, 10, and newborn baby Bear.

“We live in a world where we have to be aware of all this stuff, unfortunately. And it’s feeding this young generation in a way that’s beyond terrifying, so normal friendships aren’t even normal friendships any more because, half the time, they seem to be forging relationships with people they’ve never met.”

The actress, who married Richard Branson’s nephew Ned Rocknroll a year ago, said they enjoyed an entirely normal life at their home in West Sussex.

“People say to me, ‘You cook?’ and I’m like, ‘Who else is going to f****** cook?’ It’s funny, this notion that when you become a famous person, you stop doing normal things. Maybe some people do, but I think I’d be so unhappy if I didn’t do it.”

She said that third husband Ned was a fantastic partner and father.

“Ned is absolutely incredible and he looks after us all. In fact, the other day Joe asked, ‘How come there are no other dads on the school run?’ And we both went, ‘It’s because this is the way we’re doing it.’ The kids really love that.”

Winslet also revealed that she imagined a “life on the breadline” after deciding to become an actress. The Titanic star admitted in Psychologies magazine: “I saw a life on the breadline, trotting around London, hopefully going for lots of auditions.

“I grew up in a family of people who would have a party if someone even had an audition, so when I was that girl running around town with my bag and my script pages, it was amazing. That was the life I imagined.

“It’s the reason I think I’ve been able to remain sane.”

Kate, who won her Academy Award for The Reader, said she wants look good but draws the line at surgery or botox.

“It’s my face. I just wouldn’t want to do that to myself. I care about myself and there are other ways of caring about one’s appearance that don’t involve injections and being carved up.”

She also felt that it would ruin her ability to act. “I think I’d feel a bit dishonest if I was making my face do less. I don’t know how I’d be able to do my job.”

Leo DiCaprio’s The Wolf of Wall Street, which opened on Dec. 25 and has grossed about $34 million to date, has divided critics. Is it a ludicrously funny romp about greed and decadence, or does it glorify the very abysmal things it depicts?

You be the judge.

However, DiCaprio, ever the perfectionist, really did spend time on Wall Street, on trading floors, observing the type of people who populate the film.

“I wasn’t incognito. I couldn’t be. I was there, walking around,” he told us, admitting that he’s too tall and too famous to really be undercover.

So did he meet real-life Jordan Belforts, guys for whom money is everything? Sure. But, says DiCaprio, “There’s a lot of guys that are doing a lot of great stuff and are responsible.”

We did have to tell DiCaprio that even though he’s mighty impressive as Belfort, we kept thinking of him as his pal Kate Winslet has described him in interviews: “farty Leo.” That elicited deep belly laughs from DiCaprio, who co-starred with Winslet in Titanic.

“She never says that to my face. She’s the greatest person. She’s so genuine. I love that girl. She has a brand-new baby and is in love,” he says of Winslet, who just gave birth to her third child, son Bear.

Jason Reitman has praised Kate Winslet as ”one of the greatest actresses living today” and he’s glad he waited until she was ready to film ‘Labor Day’.

Jason Reitman has praised Kate Winslet as ”one of the greatest actresses living today”.
The ‘Labor Day’ director decided to wait until the Oscar-winning British actress was ready to make their new drama rather than re-cast the part when Winslet decided she wanted a break from Hollywood.

Instead, the director shot ‘Young Adult’, which earned star Charlize Theron an Oscar nomination, while co-star Josh Brolin filmed ‘Men in Black 3’.

Reitman recalled: ”Kate Winslet is one of the greatest actresses living today, and that there will ever be. If I’ve got a script that Kate Winslet is willing to say yes to, I will wait a year, I will wait five years.
”If Kate had said, ‘Fuck this s**t’, I would have found someone else. But, for the rest of my life, I get to say I directed Kate Winslet. It’s huge.”

The drama features a salacious kitchen-based sex scene and Reitman has likened it to the infamous scene between Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in ‘Ghost’.

He told Empire magazine: ”I think it’s the dirtiest sex scene I’ll ever shoot. People have been comparing it to the ‘Ghost’ ceramics scene and I like that comparison because that scene was an inch away from being ridiculous but works. I think that’s what we’ve achieved here.”

Congratulations again to Kate, and we find the baby’s name adorable!

Kate Winslet and her husband Ned Rocknroll have chosen a unique moniker for their first child together. U.K.’s The Sun reports that the couple will call their son Bear. “They are all doing so well. They both absolutely adore him – and the name Bear,” a source close to the pair said.

A spokesperson also confirms that the baby’s name is Bear Winslet. After giving birth at an NHS Hospital in Sussex on Saturday, December 7, the “Titanic” star took care of her new baby with her husband at their home in West Sussex.

Baby Bear is the third child for Winslet. She is also a mother a to 13-year-old daughter Mia from her marriage with film producer Jim Threapleton and a 10-year-old Joe with Sam Mendes. The baby boy, meanwhile, is the first child for Rocknroll.

The actress recently hit back at people who criticized her parenting skills. “People go, ‘Oh, my God! Those poor children. They must have gone through so much.’ They don’t go from pillar to post. They’re not flown here and there with nannies. That’s never happened. My children live with me. That is it. That is it,” she told Vogue.

Winslet is not the first celebrity who named her son Bear. “Clueless” star Alicia Silverstone, who is an animal right activist and a vegan, named her son Bear Blu. According to Silverstone, many people think that the name Bear is “super cute.”

Actress Kate Winslet has threatened to sue parents’ rights group Fathers4Justice after they planned to attack her in a campaign following reports where she said her children live with her.

The Oscar winner’s solicitors Schillings have issued Fathers4Justice with a legal letter claiming that an advert the group were about to publish regarding comments the actress made in Vogue magazine about 50/50 parenting was ‘misleading and seriously defamatory’, the organisation claimed.

The row stems from a Vogue interview with Ms Winslet in October, where the actress claimed her children had a stable home life as they live just with her and they weren’t passed ‘from pillar to post’.
Fathers4Justice have reacted to this with a photo of the 38-year-old and the slogan ‘Kate, every child deserves their father this Christmas’ in their advertising campaign.

Despite Fathers4Justice emphasising that Ms Winslet’s private arrangements did not form the basis of their advert, they have potentially unfairly used her in a campaign about fathers’ access to their children.
Now Fathers4Justice say that before the publication of their campaign, they were contacted by Winslet’s representatives and her former director husband, Sam Mendes, claiming the advert was ‘false and damaging’.
She said: ‘People go, ‘Oh, my God! Those poor children! They must have gone through so much.’ Says who?’ the actress told Vogue when asked about the criticism she’s received for her private life.
